Every dye session a “mud” bath is created from the mixing of dyes as I pour different colours over the fabrics. At the end of a session I sometimes dunk a piece of fabric in this mud bath just to see what comes out. I end up with what I like to call mud cloths.
From time to time I will offer these “Mud Cloths” for sale. Here are two of them that I just can’t believe have been made from discards of excess dye.
Here, here to all our efforts at recycling!!
1 half yard
item # AC-114/2
$9.00 SOLD
1 half yard
item # AC-120/2
$9.00 SOLD
These next three pieces were dyed over a bar. I drape the fabric over the bar with a catch tray underneath and pour the dye over it. The dye moves down the fabric in slow motion and it’s almost like watching a slow crack develop on a newly dried sidewalk. Mesmerizing!

1 half yard

1 half yard
item #AC-136/2

p.s. The green “mud cloth” at the beginning of this post was dyed using the dye discards of the three pieces of fabric above. Fascinating isn’t it?
